Laul family by Toomas Volkmann
A piano rim is like a piano’s fortress. It holds the piano together, providing containment for more than 20-tons of string tension from the cast iron plate, but the rim also is essential for the piano’s musicality. Our special slow-gluing process provides long-term stability for the entire piano, reducing tension in the rim, and keeping the rim stable and strong for generations. We hand-assemble and mortise the tenon joint braces with wooden dowels to create a smooth transition and natural tone throughout the piano.

Using traditional methods in woodworking by hand can be surprisingly more precise than using machines. For example, each piano needs to have its own unique bridge measurements. Chiseling a bridge by hand can create the perfect height for the strings. Hand-driven bridge pins ensure that the energy of the strings is optimally transmitted to the soundboard.

We carefully select soundboards made of only the highest quality resonant spruce, found in the high altitudes of the Swiss and Italian Alps. Our advanced lacquering technology prolongs the stability of the non-tapered soundboard. Influenced by the success of the model L210, we have gradually implemented the same process in all our models. Our experienced craftsmen precisely find the right tension in the soundboard allowing the soundboard to carry a naturally beautiful and singing piano sound.

The hammers and action are selected from high-end European manufacturers. We assemble the parts precisely with each piano, which allows for excellent control of the tonal possibilities and a wide range of dynamics.
