In 1995, dr. Laul, a doctoral piano student at the Juilliard School, set the goal of taking these pianos into a new level of musical standard and quality. This resulted in gathering of design engineers and scientists from the Estonia Piano Factory, the Estonian Institute of Cybernetics, the Estonian Academy of Science, and selected American and European piano technicians. The focus was to bring the piano into its highest possible musical and construction level, something that was designed for pianists and musicians of the highest caliber.

This special machine was developed for testing various hammer impacts. ESTONIA pianos have the highest-quality hammers: Renner Blue, imported from Germany.

The cast iron plate was analyzed by using a computerized model and generating the tensions forces which have an impact on the plate. The series of calculations and computerized experiments gave a model with an evenly distributed tension. This result improves the characteristic and stability of the piano sound.
